Hi,
Ran across another deal and wanted to ask you if it was a good one - a mint 17" 1ghz powerbook (everything original except it has 1gb memory) for $1500. Is that a good deal, considering there are two later models that have been out?
So here is the dilemma, should I keep it or sell it? I have also a titanium 667 (no dvi) that I picked up for $600 on ebay. It has 1gb memory, and I took my 60gb 5400 hard drive and put it in. It seems to be okay, and the condition of it is very good with the exception of a few paint chip on the edges of the palmrest.
So I have these two machines (along with others that I plan to sell) but I really only want to keep one. Certainly, there is a huge price difference, but with the 17" it is simply gorgeous. Will the value of the 17" retain or will it diminish? The 667 I think is a very good price, and I think will be the lowest price it could be.
Tough decision, again. So I will need your advice and opinions. You've all always been great. Please let me know.
Thanks!!!

Computers are usually not investments; they depreciate. The newer a computer is, the more it’ll depreciate.
Keep the cheapest computer that does what you need and sell the rest. Use eBay to research prices.

Screw that, no way in hell I'd rather keep the 667 Ti over a 17" Alu, unless ofcourse I was planing on traveling alot in the future. You'll get more money if you sell the Alu right now and kept the Ti, but if I were you I'd sell the Ti unless ofcourse your worried about making money, in which case I'd rather sell the Alu and make some cash with that.

Really, only Cubes and 20th Anniversary Macs have kept a normal than higher value, but they too have depreciated significantly from their original purchase price. But their rarity keeps their value inflated above machines of similar vintage.
So you'll probably get a lot more money for the 17" machine, but it will last you longer and give you more productive life than the TiBook (assuming you use the laptop to make money).
If you don't travel, sell the Ti. If you do travel, sell the 17". But if you use your computer for anything more than hobbies, I'd sell the older model. You'll realize more money from the faster machine by getting more work done, and that will hopefully make up the difference in selling prices eventually.
