This is mucho odd.

Over the weekend I was trying to rescue my Dads blitzed ibook.
Finally got my PB disk utility to recreate the ibook as a disc image on hte PB after firewire target mode and everyhting else failed. Sorted out the ibook but since then my PB has taken on various aspects of the ibooks personality. It thinks its name is now my dads (owner name etc) and weirdly although I was running iphoto4 I now have iphot 2 in my applications folder.

Problem is I can't use my library as iphoto 4 has reorganised it AND apple don't seem to have a download of v4 on hteir site (only the updater).

I know that the app must be on my installer discs (10.3) but how can I install only this app (or where can I download it?)

Thanks

First of all, what exactly did you do with this "disk utility" you mention to resurrect the iBook? Unless you copied stuff over from the iBook to your PB or did some kind of sync operation that did that automatically, your symptoms don't make sense.

Second, iPhoto 4 is part of iLife '04, a separate purchase unless you have a PB introduced this year, in which case it is on the software restore disks. It is not a free download.

Okey dokey

Dad's iBook went turtle after starting to act all odd. Tried reinstalling system (archive and install) but kept getting errors. Then no restart at all. Tried booting from OS9 CD (it's old enough) but no dice, so tried starting in firewire target mode but wouldn't mount on my PB. Disk utility could see the ibook drive though and repair and verify it fine.
I used disc utility to make a disc image of the ibook on my Powerbook which took ages but seemed to work then copied all my dads apps and work from the disc image to a folder on my PB.
Interestingly the ibook has a 20Gb drive. My dad only has a few letters and e-mails but the machine was showing only 4 GB remaining and about 16Gb of data copied over to my Pb.
Then wiped the iBook drive completely and re-installed the system from original discs (not attached to my Pb anymore. Then copied all his apps and work back over ethernet. Interestingly the ibook now shows 16Gb free although I didnt relaly wipe anything out.
It's all VERY strange but now my PB thinks it's called Gordon Stephens's computer and I have iphoto v2 instead of 4.
btw my PB is a new 1.33 Ai and came with iLife (iphoto4 and garage band etc so I do legally own this app)

Not sure how or why you could make a disk image of the iBook but not mount the disk. Where on your PB was the folder where you copied all this stuff from the iBook? And can you log out from your father and log back in as yourself?

basically I copied all the data onto a folder on the first level of the Hard Drive. Didn't do anything with it just copied it back when the iBook was working and then binned it all.

I have foound the gordon stephens's computer anomaly in the sharing setup. No idea why it changed, and someone pointed me at Pacifist to reload iphoto so all is hopefuly back to normal but very strange.

Thanks
