Hi all,
Is there a way to set any PowerBook G4 (including the latest) to always run at 100Mbps full-duplex? I am not sure if the newer ones already do this, but I thought the older PBs ran at only half-duplex. Could someone verify this for me?
Thanks.
How old are you thinking? PowerBook 520-era? Anything from the PowerBook G4 on up runs full-duplex as fast as it can (100base-T, or 1000base-T if it can and if it's hooked up to a switch that supports it). Even some of the PowerBook G3s came with 100base-T onboard. The older ones came with 10base-T, which also ran full-duplex.
Never heard from anywhere that they only ran at half-duplex. You got a source for that?
If it eases your mind, you can easily force your NIC to run at 100Mbps, full-duplex, though. Go to System Preferences->Network, double-click Built-In Ethernet, select the Ethernet tab. Then choose to Configure Manually and set it up for 100 Mbps, full-duplex (this is under 10.3, not sure if these settings exist in the GUI under 10.2 or earlier).
