I just bought an 14" iBook G4, and I can't seem to latch the lid when I close it. It keeps popping up. I haven't even started it up yet. Has this been a problem that anyone else has encountered or is there something I'm missing? Should I just take it back to the Apple store?

If you're close the Apple store, then yes, just take it back. You'll keep that machine, but most probably the latch just needs to be bent a bit to catch. They can do that for you in a minute or less.

My latch broke one morning when I went to open it up and check my lesson plan before I went to school. Very annoying to never be able to close the thing, have it wake up whenever it chooses, etc. Not covered under any warranty, of course. Fortunately the logic board freaked out, six months of botched repairs on the part of a hack third-party company (buy AppleCare) and they eventually replaced the machine. Fortunately? Well I have a latch that works, now.

Yeah, take that back.

Yes, broken - happened to me a few years ago, so I suggest you take it back. If not, the magnet may have fallen off, off the clip may have bent, but either way, get it fixed...

I think on apples web page it has been acknowledged as a flaw.
