I purchased an iBook G4 and was wondering how to hook it up with my eMac to my cable modem. The iBook has AP Extreme and the eMac doesn't, but I am getting the new AirTunes Express when it is shipped. Is there someway that I can share the connection or do I have to plug and unplug the cable to use one or the other machines? What would be the best way to hook up the machines when I get the AP station?
W....liar or idiot? Pick two.

I'd imagine you could get a "regular" airport card for the eMac ... it'd only work at 802.11b speeds, but it should work. Alternately, you should also be able to get a regular router and plug one of the downstream land lines into the eMac and the other into Airport Express so you can still be wireless with at least your iBook. Either way, you will obviously need some piece of hardware to share the cable line between the two machines .. whether it be a wireless card for the emac or landline multi-port router.

I am going with the regular Base Station. It makes more sense for me for now, as it is also a router, so I can lan the eMac directly to it without a router and use the iBook wirelessly. I really don't have to play iTunes through my stereo. Eventually, I will get the Express to take on the road.

Have you considered a third-party wireless router? They are MUCH less expensive. You can afford to go with G wireless today for less than the cost of an Apple AirPort Base Station. All you need is a wireless router that conforms to 802.11g standards, and any one that says "wireless" and "G" on the box will do that. There is nothing proprietary about AirPort Extreme except for the name and the terminology Apple uses with it.

Edit: You can also find a lot of great information on networking in the Networking forum.
