Ok, I need a new laptop and the 14" iBook looks just perfect for my needs (replacing my Pismo).

So, since they have been around since October, anyone think there will be a speed bump any time soon? (like next week?)
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.

I was thinking the same thing, but there is one thing in the way.

Well, three things actually... the current Powerbook range!

They aren't going G5 any day soon, and the G4 is doing well to be at 1.5Ghz at all on the current die size. They have also been updated relatively recently...

So where does the iBook go?

They already have decent enough graphics, a superdrive option, 1.2ghz speed, slot load drive...

I am at a loss as to how to improve them at the moment! They can't up the processor or specs without really canibalising Powerbook sales...

I am a prime Powerbook customer, but about to buy an iBook!

Then again, hope springs eternal, and Apple may surprise us all round!

Either way I'm probably buying on Thursday!

The iBook was updated in April, not October. This means we won't see any update before October.

Huh? I don't remember that. I remember G4 iBooks last October. Am I wrong?

According to the MacRumors Buyer's Guide, the iBook G4/800 12" was released in October 2003 and the iBook G4/1Ghz 12" was released in April 2004 (a little more than two months ago already).

MacRumors considers it "Neutral - Mid product cycle" (as opposed to "Don't Buy - Updates soon" or "Buy Now! - Product just updated"), but take that for what it's worth.

I'm sittin' on my TiBook (well, not literally ) until I see something compelling...

EDIT: the buying guide lists the PowerBook as "Buy - Product recently updated", even though it was released the same day as the iBook. Time for some conspiracy theories...
