Is it a good idea to install OSX on an old i-book (2001)?

Hello everyone, I'm new here and have a few questions regarding an i-book.
First, does anyone have access to Mac OSX (warez) 10.0+? I'm trying to help a friend upgrade from his OS 9.0 version and can't seem to find a copy. I tried finding the file on apple.com, but alas they only have an supplements to the core OS. I'm not too savvy when it comes to Macintosh, so if anyone can offer me some help, I'd appreciate it very much!
Well, I must level with you - the reason he wants to upgrade his little i-book from his current OS 9 to OS-X 10.2.6 is so he can play this:

[ALL INLINE IMAGES MUST BE NO WIDER THAN 480 PIXELS --tooki]
He already shelled out $150 for this game and 512mb of additional memory, and now wants to upgrade the operating system in order for it to become compatible, but as some of you mentioned above, I think that's kind of stretching the ability of this old i-book.
I get the impression that the OSX 10.3 panther is going to be too much to handle for this old i-book (circa 2001-2002)
I may suggest to my friend that he should just get a playstation 2 and forget upgrading the mac, but he's so into strategy games like the one mentioned above (Age of Empires, Rise of Nations, etc.) which is why I doubt he'll go for that.
Any suggestions?

First of all, if he wants to install Mac OS X, he must buy it.
The iBook does run Mac OS X pretty well (particularly Mac OS X 10.3 which is significantly faster. It's actually much faster than 10.0, 10.1 or 10.2).
Second, avoid posting large pictures. Read the rules :

Thank you Pat. Of course, I went ahead and purchased the software directly from Apple, and found out that I have a discount by working with my School District, so $69.99 instead of $129 = Great Deal!
I'll help him install it, and he should meet the system requirements I read from the MacOSX website. (G3 processor, 3GB, 512mb, and good factory video card)
I appreciate your advice, and sorry about the pictures.

I guess the best thing to do would be to double check the minimum requirements for this game....

it requires a 16 mb video card which that ibook you showed us does not have.

I was going to say the same thing about the video card. My old clamshell iBook can handle Panther quite well (366 mhz with 384 of ram) but the video demands are too much. I remember buying Civ 3 and having to wait a few months until I upgraded to a newer Mac.
Secondly, you and your friend should try avoiding warez. And if someone is and feels the need to pirate (which is simply justification for criminal activity), then it's best not to usually discuss it and expect everyone to be blase about it.
Some sites would ban you straight up for bringing it up.

Thanks for the added comments, but now I fear that you may be correct regarding the video card capabilities. We just received the OSX panther package yesterday, so we'll install it and see how it goes.
Since we just bought and installed the non-refundable 512mb memory a week ago, we may just need to sell off what we have now and start over by purchasing a new computer/laptop.
512mb: $140 (mac accessories are freakin' expensive!)
Strategy Game: $50
OSX Panther: $70 (discounted)
So we've spent over $260 with shipping and taxes, when most agile PC's & laptops go for $800 - $1200. Oh brother.
What Macintosh computer would you guys recommend for a college student who's into such strategy games that are graphics demanding?
I personally would go with a PC, but he and his family seem to like Macs better, which is understandable.
Much appreciated.

Depends on his budget, if its large go the best you can get 2.5 Dual G5. If he wants to save up, go with a refurbed 1GHz eMac (still a great computer and dirt cheap compared to other Mac prices).

I've played several games on my 500mhz iBook which were supposed to require 16mb of VRAM where I only have 8mb.... You might have a good surprise... Let us know how is works...
