hallo everyone
now that i'm back at home from Schule and bin in quieter enviroments, i notice my powerbook ( 15" 1.25, bought before Chritsmas) makes a very annoying buzz, that comes from under the KB. It's not very loud, but it's disturbing enough when you're on quiet places triying to write or read.
the sound is a little like morse code, and wavers through 3 or 4 high speed frequencies, sometimes sounds like an analog modem line.

do any of you have a similar noise?

i didnt notice until now. I must send my book to repair (uneven illumination -on 2nd faulty screen-, plus some problems with right speaker and superdrive), and i dont know wheter should i mention this as well or not.

thx in advance.

nobody else has this buzzing???

i remember people saying a noise like that was present in some of the older titaniums. Maybe it's a common behaviour in Mac laptops (although i previously had an ibook and a titanium and didn't notice any noise)

any help?

The forums are full of threads about odd buzzes and whines and odd noises from all Macs. I think it depends on how sensitive you are to it. I feel for you, I find background noise from everyday items very annoying. It seems like there is always something buzzing away in the background...

The general consensus I've picked up from reading other threads is that - sometimes electrical components make noise, it doesn't necessarily mean there's something wrong with it; And your mac contains so many different component it would be almost impossible to track down the noisy culprit. Or convince Apple to do much about it if it isn't very loud.

Sorry i couldn't offer more advice

Good luck.

all albooks I have seen have that noise. if you want to turn it down go to energy saver and put processor performance to auto or - even quieter - to reduced.

If you want to hear another annoying sound: in a finder window (column view) select a file with a sound track (mp3, aiff, mpg) and toggle the preview open in the finder window. Now I just leave the preview closed.

another annoying noise (Gachunk) is the hard drive constantly seating and unseating itself for which i got "APM Tuner X".
