Hi all,

sent in PB 15" AlBook for white spots - lcd defect. That was fixed.

Apple removed my two 512MB 3rd party RAM modules, saying that they'd "failed" - sent them to me in little plastic bags.

I put 'em back in - work fine, just like before.

So, what does Apple do? Run a test that reports failure despite fact that the RAM is fine, same specs Apple uses, etc? Then take them out?

Actually Apple certified techs have a different Hardware disc then the normal user, chances are it didn't pass their test.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

you would think that they would let us use that disk, find more problems with our hardware, and have to send more stuff to them to get fixed making them more money . . . .

Same thing happened to me. They said in so many words they would not honor the warranty if I put the offending chip back in and something in my 17" starts frying. I am just looking at the little plastic bag with the chip inside that worked flawlessly till Apple sent it back. I am to scared to put it back in.
I heard the 1.5 Ghz works just as fast or faster without two 512 MB chips as far as running single apps go. I hardly run more than one app at a time anyway.

I just stuck my RAM back in and all's dandy. God knows why it didn't pass Apple Tech's test. It has the specs Apple publishes for RAM.

Well I am going to continue eyeing my chip like this
Since Apple claims it started giving colonel panics since they got it.
I'm trashing that sucker NOW.

Is that like when a major Kernel Panic is promoted?

Why not return the chips to the shop, claiming to get new ones?
They are obviously broken!
