OK, this is a serious question. My wife and I are trying to have our second child. I brought home my School's laptop for the summer and she is wondering if sitting with it on my lap can cause any harm to my private area. She is worried about radiation or something like that.
Any ideas?
Please try to keep this clean, as I said, this is a serious question.
Thanks

No, unless you use it naked and sit it on top of your scrotum.
I don't sit my iBook on my lap anywayif I am going to use it longer then 15 minutes because the heat is annoying but its not so hot that it can cause damage. Get one of those 15 dollar lap desks or any number of other of things they sell for laptops.
But I hear that cells phones in your pocket may not be so good for you.

Well, the iBook is supposed to be shielded to prevent interference with other devices. The only emissions that you should possibly worry about (although I don't) would be from AirPort or Bluetooth which can be turned off.

OK, thanks guys, I do have an airport card that is running down to one fo the school's base stations in the card. I also put the laptop on a pillow when it is on my lap as I did too notice the hot surface when using without the pillow. I will tell my wife, thanks!
Any thanks turtle777 for not going there

NO. The only emissions are the 2.4Ghz from the Airport and/or Bluetooth. But, the levels are areound cordless phone levels, which are milliwatts and will not cause any harm to humans. If you slept on top of the iBook for your entire life it probably would not harm you.
The only emissions to worry about are heat, but I'm sure you have enough common sense to remove the 'book from your lap if it gets too hot so as not to burn "the member".
Other than that, there's nothing to worry about. So get busy and have fun making that baby!

Sperm don't like high temperatures, which is why they develop in a pouch that hangs outside of your body.

Also, AirPort (and Bluetooth too, I think) use the 2.4 GHz band. The FCC (and most other authorities around the world) lets that frequency be used on an unlicenced basis because it happens to be the frequency that microwave ovens give off as noise. (It might also be the resonant frequency of water, but I'm not sure). So nobody can effectively broadcast on it, because the ambient noise would drown out any long-distance transmission.
Technology has evolved so that AirPort can function in the face of interference from microwave ovens. But the moral of my story is that your microwave is already bombarding you with emissions on that frequency, so I don't think you need to worry about it.
In fact, I know from personal experience that you don't need to worry about it for your particular situation. But that's a topic for another thread.

I would recommend against a pillow. They don't provide good ventilation, and usually block the venting slots around the back/sides of the iBook. Your best bet is something solid and flat.

You could use one of those lap cushions, you know, the ones that are a cushion on one side and a wood board on the other (normally sold for writing).

Considering the surface texture of every laptop I've ever seen, I would be very leery about letting one sit on my naked lap. Add to that the fact that most do get hot on the bottom (something that's been a fact of portable life since the notebook/laptop came into existence), and you have a serious reason to isolate the laptop from the lap.
Of course I have to wonder what the guy who burned himself with the Dell was using the computer for in the first place...
