I have a dual USB 2001 era iBook, running at 500mhz. It is by far the most reliable machine I have ever had. Until recently that is.
In the last week or two, I've has a kernal panic every other day, more than I've had in almost three years that I've had this computer. I'm thinking about memory going bad, or something of the like, but I'm not sure.
Has anyone else had such an issue with an iBook suddenly becoming unstable?

You might want to uninstall any 3rd party additional memory you have on the iBook. Use it again and see if you can repeat the problem. Sometimes the memory is bad, or it could also be the case that it is seated incorrectly.

As suggested I would run it without any additional 3rd party memory first. Since you've had the machine for a while I have to ask: Have you ever done a clean install of the OS or have you just upgraded it? (Come to think of it what version of the OS are you running currently?) Over time I find that computers accumulate "crud", and by reinitializing the drive and doing a clean install of the OS a lot of that crud gets cleaned up and you come away with a, dare I say it, snappier machine.
