Dear All,
I just recently got my powerbook fixed after an accident i had with it. I got a new motherboard / ram, case, everything almost. Now, it seems, my computer has been freezing occasionally. I ran TechTool Pro 4 intermediate tests, and it says that the computer was fine, and everything passed. I check the system log when it freezes, and i dont see anything conclusive. Any suggestions what i should do? I did reformat when I got my machine back, but maybe something screwy happened. Could this be software related? I also have diskwarrior, and repaired permissions, and zapped the pram. Any ideas? Any advice?

I formatted. So far my uptime is 10 hours. Let's hope I make it to a few days.

Just froze after I installed DVD Studio Pro 3, and restarted. Upon restarting within 5 mins of finished loading, it froze. I guess I need to bring it to the apple store next week after the 4th of july holiday.

Sincerely,
Mel

You didn't say what model you have, but if you have the 12", remove any DIMM you may have and try running it. If you have a 15" or 17" and two DIMM's, try removing one or the other and testing. If you have only one DIMM, see if you can borrow another from somebody to test. Chances are this is a DIMM problem.

I have a PC2100 DDR 512 meg RAM chip installed. Like I said, the machine was in an accident, and got fixed. They replaced the motherboard/ram, and most of the other components, with the exception of the hard drive. Anyhow, funny thing is, my systems uptime has been pretty good

IOMac:~ mel101$ uptime
14:30 up 1 day, 17 hrs, 3 users, load averages: 1.89 1.42 0.85

So I wonder if it just passed, or it will freeze again. I'm installing some fink stuff, which is proc intensive, so we will see what happens. Thanks for all your help, and I'll keep you posted.

Just keeping you posted, if your interested, I called up the place that fixed my computer, and apparently i have a 60 day warranty on my repair, so that being said, they are shipping me a box to send it away.

In the box, I will write a detailed explanation of the problem, indicating the machine doesn't freeze when it's idle, only when it's doing processor/memory intensive tasks. Hopefully they will fix it.

Sincerely,
Mel

Well just got off the phone with the company fixing my machine, and apparently they havent been able to duplicate it in "standard" tests, but the technical manager does agree with the assertion that it is the RAM chip as I wrote that in the notes inside the shipping box. They have no further information, as to if/when they are replacing it, or when it will ship, but at least they recognize i have a problem. First hurdle is over.
