Hi,
Ive done a search on many forums (macrumors, apple's discussion etc..) and can still not find anyone with my problem.

Basically i have a 12" G4 800 ibook with 640 RAM and it has been running fine for 3 months. But a few days ago it wont sleep but instead it resets the computer. Closing the lid and sleeping it manually through "apple logo/sleep" will still not sleep but instead resart the computer. It isnt a proper restart either more like suddenly disconnecting the power and then putting it back in.

Ive tried resetting the PMU and NVRAM. But to no avail. I went to my local Apple Centre and there is a 2 week wait to get my ibook looked at.

Ive also tested the hardware using the hardware test and as a last resort i formatted the ibook and installed MAC OSX from scratch.

Whats going on?
I love the sleep function!!!

it must be the firmware but how could it be for the lid closing thing maybe their is something on the button so it presses the button when you close the lid for the menu thing maybe you accidently pressed shutdown.
what happens when you press the power button once(not holding it) and then choose sleep from the dialog that appears.

When i press the power button and choose sleep it still restarts (and recently now it just turns off). But as i sed... its not the same restart/shutdown that you would get if u were to shut it down normally. Its more like the power cuts off, so its not a proper shutdown (similar affect if you were to hold power).

Anyform of sleep will make it restart/turn off... closing the lid/auto sleep through energy saver/pressing power then choosing sleep. All have the same effect.

Its really annoying me

I upgraded it myself about 1 month ago and its been running fine without a glitch.

Could it be the RAM?

Ill remove it to see if thats the case
will post back results shortly.

The AE card was installed as BTO and it doesnt seem to be a problem either.
Apart from them two they are the only upgrades from the original iBook specs.

Are there any other resets besides NVRAM and PMU?

Sounds like a hardware issue, prob. best to get Apple to look at it, most likely something you won't be able to fix with a simple PMU/VRAM reset etc.

I'm pretty much out of ideas. it seems that it is power related. The computer just stops getting power if their is a sudden drop in how much it needs.

Ok well i brought it back to apple last week and got a call and picked it up today. They replaced the logic board and it now sleeps normally. They had tried to boot from external firewire drive and sleep it without sucess and they tried resetting the PMU's and NVRAM and did all hardware checks etc... and ended up diagnosing the prblem to be logic board.

So thanks for your help guys im soo happy its sleeping again and most importantly i have my ibook back cos using the PC for the last week was starting to annoy me.
