Hi,
I've had our sony trv18 digital camcorder for a while, but have never tried to connect it to our macs (powerbook nor imac). My wife decided to try today, and using our firewire cable (which is working), the macs do not recognize it. It doesn't even show.
Downloading pictures through our sony p10 camera is a breeze, so I don't know why a sony camcorder wouldn't be easy.
Is this a driver or firmware issue? Would any of you know what is going on, and how this could be fixed.
Please let me know,
Thanks!!

Hi,
Thanks for your help as always!!
I was coming back to delete my post when i saw yours...
The trv18 now works great with imovie, no problems whatsoever. I guess we just got nervous when there was no icon that appeared on the desktop for the camcorder. I'll eventually be trying it with final cut 4, so I hope all goes well with that.
The wife is happy now, and so she'll be playing and making her little movies for a little while now.
Thanks again!

Hi again,
by the way, how did you like the trv18 and now trv 19? We got it about a year ago for $399, and we thought it was a pretty good deal at the time. My wife has been asking to upgrade to a newer model, even the ones with that copy directly to dvd. What are your thoughts? Is the trv18 a good camcorder?
Thanks!!

i wish the camera mounted on the desktop,
i would not advise those that copy straight to dvd, they compress to mpeg2 on the fly, which is totally low rent. that would be more of a downgrade. dvds can only hold 5 gigs of data, while mini-dv can hold approximately 12 gigs of data
i would definitely keep your current camera. cameras definitely dont go out of date anywhere as close as computers do, especially considering it has a Zeiss lens.
