Hi,

I may have convinced my girlfriend to get an iBook (thus making a switch). I currently use a AlBook (first apple product), and it's bloody quiet. I was wondering if the iBook is also quiet, since I can't seem to find any threads on noise levels.

Thanks

I've never really heard my own iBook (G4, 933MHz) make much noise, nor those belonging to others, so I think it's safe to say that iBooks are pretty quiet.

It seems to me that it takes alot of proc. intensive stuff to get the fan going on an iBook so with that info. I'd guess that it's pretty damn quiet.
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

I don't know which specific iBook you guys are talking about, but I have a 14" iBook G4 1Ghz, and I also hear no noise.
Just wanted to let you know incase you were looking at specifiic types.

My wife's iBook (800MHz G4) is quiet as a tomb. I don't think I've ever heard the fan, though I've actually seen the air coming out and deflecting (ever so slightly) a piece of paper, so I know it's working. Beautiful engineering...

I have an 800Mhz iBook G4, the loudest sound I've heard come out of it is the HD running. It is very quiet! Much quieter than the 1Ghz 15" Tibook that I used to have.

I recommended a 800MHz/G4 iBook to a friend. Not my girlfriend but - even worse - I wanted her to become my gf (seems to work in the meantime ). So my recommendation was extremely critical.

She 's more than happy with the iBook. It gets warm (harddrive) and the fan runs from time to time, especially when its hot outside. But in general its a very quiet notebook compared to my 12inch/1GHz Powerbook and especially compared to pc notebooks.

I think you cannot go wrong with it.
