I have a Pismo G3/400 that has suddenly developed a really wicked overheating problem. Basically, I can only use the machine for a short while before it freezes completely and will not turn off or on again. Letting it cool down for increasingly longer periods of time allows me to use it for a longer amount of time before freezing. This is a problem that just developed today. Both the round part of the power adaptor and the bottom of the Pbook get quite warm, although it's hard to say if they get any warmer than usual. I tried resetting the PMU with no success. The fan doesn't seem to function, although I don't remember if it ever did. Any ideas?

my pismo/400 got really hot (when i started using it with osx);
...although not nearly as hot as the 12" alubook!

what makes you think this is a heat-related issue?

try disk first aid/repairing permissions first (from the osx cd).
ie i'd look for software fixes first before assuming the heat is doing this...

just some ideas...

Hmmm... well, it's mostly the fact that when it's hot it doesn't run at all, and when it's been off for a long while (i.e. cool) it runs.. until it gets hot. I'd boot from the OSX cd but I have to leave the Pbook off for a half-day before it will run long enough to get any results.
