Does anyone know of the Sony PCWA-C300S wireless card will work in my laptop in place of the airport card? I currently use Panther 10.3.4 and Airport 3.4. This card is supposed to blend in better with the exterior of the laptop and have a stubby antenna.

Thanks in advance for any responses

Airport card slots are only made for airport cards, so no, you can't replace it. Your only other internal option would be a PC Card that you would use in your PC Card slot.

NO!

"Only works with Win Me"

There are other pcmcia airport "substitutes" that work with macs like the Cisco Aironet 340 Wireless Networking PCMCIA Card with Extended Range Antenna

Thanks for your reply. The Sony card that I am referring to is a PC slot card. I have seen reports where earlier versions of this card will work and I was wondering if the newer version would work as well.

Editors' rating:
6.8 Fair

User rating:

The good:
Top performance; quick setup; great software.

The bad:
Pricey; short range; cannot be used with all notebooks; supports only Windows XP and Me; skimpy one-year warranty.

The bottom line:
This PC Card adapter's compact antenna is appealing, but Buffalo's AirStation is cheaper and offers better support.

there was a mod someone did, but rather drastic. he actually routed a cable through the IR port (he practically killed the IR port - but who uses them annyway) to the Airport's internal antenna connection, and hooked it up to an external antenna that he stuck with velcro to the back of the screen. the reception is madly increased, but it worked. lol.
