is there any way to test whether my pcmcia slot has tanked on my bronze keyboard pb? can't seem to get wireless cards or fw cards to work or recognize--the symbol shows up on the desktop, but drivers will not recognize it.

would like to eliminate the possibility of a bad slot if possible.

tks!

Get a $10 PCMCIA Compact Flash card reader and see if a CF card mounts on the desktop as it should.

Also, PCMCIA card support with Jaguar from 10.2.1 to 10.2.8 was very flaky at best, what OS are you running?

9.2.2. it's an older PB i've been trying to salvage and make usable for wireless surfing. so i bought the orinoco silver, downloaded a trial driver from ioxperts.com, and no luck.

i also have tried an nec compatible pcmcia card with firewire ports, and cannot get that to recognize either, but that's i believe because i could not find any driver that would work with it.

if its a bronze why don't you just get an internal apple made card? more likely to actually work in OSX should you upgrade... and no thing hanging out the side of the machine.

also... if you are getting an icon for the card... then the slot is most likely working. you just don't have proper drivers for the device.
