Does anyone know where a good review can be found of the new 17" 1.5ghz Powerbook? I have searched on Google and others but nothing comes up only details of the laptop and nothing extra. It would be nice to find a good detailed review somewhere as I pick my new PB up tomorrow, BTO with 128mb Vram and 5400 HD. Can't wait for this baby, sold my 12" (getting to know Mac) for the 17" big boy. Need the screen space for making dvd movies of my travels as I work in the cruise line industry and get to see a lot of the world.

Need to get a good backpack for it thinking about the Booq Bag XL system, $200 but looks to be worth it. Any ideas here on good bags for protection while traveling a lot.

Cheer All.

What cruise line do you work for? I also work in the cruise industry and am just about to order the 17" with the same specs as you did.

I am curious though - did you consider the Brenthaven backpack that sells on the Apple store website? That's the one I am thinking of getting - what made you go for the other one?

Here's my review: My PowerBook G4 17-inch 1.5 GHz model is now getting repaired for the 4th time. They better get it right when it returns next week or I'm going to demand a new one or a refund.

the reviews are broken down. for performance, check out barefeats.com. for build and QC, check out the impressions thread, these doesn't change much since the rev A model, it probably only gets better. you can also check out apple's support page to see what kind of problems people have been having.

or look up some 12" vs 17", 15" vs 17" threadds, usually people mention lots of good things and bad things for them.

Work for RCCL. Went to the BOOQ internet site and the bag looks good and it come with a powerbook 17" sleeve which is highly rated. Want the best protection I can get for it.

Here were some of my previously posted reviews. They're not technical by any means, but I highly recommend this machine.

Get a 17" PowerBook now. I just got one, and this machine is awesome. Apple's had a few revision releases on this model now, and everything's as tight and solid as can be. Load it up with some 3rd-party memory, and you'll be set for at least a few years.

I don't think we'll see a G5 PB for at least 10-12 months, and even then, it will be a first and potentially buggy release. I'd rather have a refined workhourse than a cutting-edge hassle anyday.

I seem to buy an Apple computer a year, and I am most impressed (at the moment) with the 1.5 Ghz 17" Powerbook. The extra size of the 17" is awesome - fits comfortably on my lap, runs cooler than the 15", and the screen size...oustanding.

I got the 17" 1.5Ghz Powerbook about a week ago, and I am very impressed. I have a dual 1.25 PowerMac also, and so far, I see no significant performance drop-off when going from the tower to the notebook. And the norebook is much quieter than my tower.

I have 2 gigs of memory in each unit, and I suggest a heavy dose of memory for the powerbook.

A few years ago, I had a 667Mhz TiBook, and this new Powerbook destroys that thing in performance. Back then, I had used the 667 as my main machine at 2 locations (work, home). But this 17-inch Powerbook is the one I should have had.

I think you'll be very satisfied using a 1.5 Ghz powerbook as a desktop replacement. I recommend the 17-inch model as well. Actually, I think that when I was looking at the discount configurations (I also have a bud who gets a discount), the 17-incher was only $125 more. Besides the screen space, it is also much more comfortable on a lap than the 15-incher.
