Screen Spanning Doctor lets you set this option as well. But watch your iBook -- if you find it overheats with the lid closed, don't continue using it that way.

Probably because the iBook is hooked up to an external display and the internal LCD isn't in use. You might be watching a DVD on a bigger screen for example...

I've installed SSD which tooki mentioned but did not apply the "clamshell mode" patch. For the case you mentioned above, I just leave the lid partially closed (not latched) and dim the display.

BAD idea! That's asking for HD troubles, and the machine has no cooling at all inside a bag, and that's really not good.

I posted about this a while ago, but got no answers on how to do it. The reason I'd like to leave it closed is to be on AIM with the away message, or playing through airTunes without having to have my iBook open.

Is that all too much to do with it closed? I have a new iBook G4 14 inch. (1 Ghz.)
Thanks
Brandon

I have the same laptop, let us know how it works out. I need to do some web development on a desktop using filesharing to files on my laptop. It's really more of a weird personal preference... but i'd rather have it closed when i'm not using it.
