Greetings,

I have a 17" 1.33 Mhz PowerBook G4 running Panther.

Lately my Bluetooth module has been disappearing from the menu bar, with no Bluetooth functions working (I use an Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse which have been functioning perfectly for the last 4 months).

The only way to correct this I have discovered, is to power down the machine, hold down shift>control>option>power, wait for 5 seconds, power up the machine , and then bluetooth will work and the module will appear live in the menu bar.

However, every time I power down and start up again, Bluetooth disappears. Then I have to constantly go through the whole process of powering down, resetting the processor (which messes up the date and time and is a root-level reset you don't want to be doing once a day or more), and booting up again.

I have discovered that if I disconnect all USB and firewire hubs as well as the ethernet cable during booting, I retain Bluetooth functionality. However I shouldn't have to do that to have full functions and often forget.

I have repaired permissions and ran background maintenance.

Does anyone have an idea what might be happening and how I can fix it?

Cheers and thanks for any thoughts,

Scott

I just read in an Apple discussion that the bluetooth bug may be caused by the USB busses competing for power..... hmmm.......

Your best bet is to look in the Knowledge base and if you cant find anything there go to the Apple Discussion Forums. There are a lot more knowledgable people over there than there are at MacNN (from what Ive seen).
