Hello everyone,

I have an early 2004 (purchased Feb04) rev B. 12" PB with a 40GB hd.

I would like to upgrade to a 80GB hd and would like some suggestions as to which avenue to approcah with this.

I know this sounds a little nieve, but can I purchase the 80GB drive from Apple....the option when your build your own online?

What brand can you recommend I use, and/or stay away from....

Also installation....if I install will it void my warranty....or should I have a Genius install.....will they install...?

Thanks for the help.

One thing I love about the Titanium laptops is that the hard drive is user replaceable, simply buy the drive you want and it is easy (relatively) to open the machine and replace the drive.

The Al Powerbooks (especially the 12") are another matter. I would recommed working through your local Apple reseller (or online reseller) for the upgrade. You would send your machine in and have then replace the drive. This will keep your machine in warranty, and save you the stress. You will be a bit more for the service, but you could offset that by grabbing a hard drive on ebay or similar.

Apple (genius or otherwise) would not handle the upgrade. Although you would be suprised what a case of beer or some money under the table can get from a genius (hmm that sounded strange but you all know what I mean).
