Hello,

I recently installed 512mb of Crucial memory into my 15" PowerBook. Everything has worked fine, but today for the first time, I unplugged the laptop and started using the battery.

Programs such as Firefox are now repeatedly crashing, and a couple of times I have gotten the "You must restart your computer" message.

The thing is, now that the computer is plugged back in everything works fine..

Is this a coincidence? Could it have something to do with the memory upgrade? I read alot on this forum that Crucial is recommended for memory, so I wonder if something else could be the cause of this problem...

Any thoughts would be appreciated..

Bad memory can often be the reason for troubles, especially Kernel Panics. I would recommend running the Apple Harware Test to see if the memory you installed has problems.

Thanks for the advice. I ran both the Apple Hardware Test and the Hardware Test that is part of TechTool Deluxe that came with my Applecare.

Both tests passed without an error..

Any other suggestions?

Take out the RAM and see if everything goes back to normal.

No problems now. Definitely must be the RAM. Guess I will call Crucial tomorrow and have them send me a new stick.

Is it possible that my 1ghz 15" powerbook just doesn't like Crucial memory?

I'm now on my second stick, and STILL having problems with random crashes.

What should I do? Use another company? Or try again with Crucial?

I've noticed an off tendancy for my dock to crash if I unplug the laptop and bring it to bed. Basicially, I just get the spinning wait cursor over the frozen dock, and eventually it disappears and relaunches. Usually happens shortly after being unplugged.

It's never really bugged me enough to investigate. Figured it would probably go away when I do a clean load of Tiger next year.
