Hi Guys,

I got myself a 12" 800 G4 iBook when it first came out and asked my local authorized Apple Reseller (NOT Apple Store) to bump the memory up to 640MB (-> add one 512MB Stick).

Well, the Mac OS X Systemprofiler tells me that the Module has the following specifications:

DIMM1/J31:

Size: 512 MB
Type: DDR SDRAM
Speed: PC2700U-25330

I figured that the company didn't have any PC-2100 sticks in stock and threw a faster PC-2700 module in.
I've now decided to step up to a 17" PB and planned to take the old 512MB Stick from my iBook into the Powerbook.
However, I just took the Module out of the iBook and noticed that the Label indeed says PC-2100 512MB "First Class Memory". What are your guesses? Will the Module work with my new 17" PB (I'll receive it next week) or should I order a new "true" PC-2700 Module right away?

Thanks.

//EDIT:

I just peeked at the module closely and noticed that there's a second sticker hidden under the first one.

the upper one says:

"FCM First Choice Memory 512MB DDR SO DIMM PC2100"

the one that was hidden under it says:

"swissbit 512MB PC-2700-2533"

Obviously, it's a rebadged PC-2700 Module - either a perfectly fine one or one that didn't pass the QC. I'll find out when my PB arrives.

I'd imagine most PC2100 is rebadged PC2700 by now... It's cheaper to mass produce it, and make different labels that let you sell at different prices. Give it a shot... the worst that will happen is that it won't recognize.

Well, here I am - sitting in front of my brand new PB - 17", 1.5 GHz, 1GB RAM, 5400 rpm HD and 128MB VRAM. What an incredible machine - it arrived sooner than expected.
The Display and sheer size had to grow on me for the first few hours, but now I can't even think of going back to my old and trusty iBook G4 12". The 17" Display set to one single bar is WAY brighter than the iBook's Display turned all the way up. I actually had to laugh out loud when I put both Laptops next to each other and compared the display-quality.

Anyway, the old RAM works perfect in the 17" PB.

You must have the 2700 then. I just got my 17PB and was disappointed to learn that the 1GB stick that I had in my G4 iBook (2100) does not work.
