Hi all-

I've been looking into the prices of 15" PBs and I'm not sure whether to go for the 1.33 ghz or the 1.5. The specs for the custom models are as follows:

1.33
• 1.33GHz PowerPC G4 with 64MB Graphics Memory
• 512MB DDR333 SDRAM - 1 SO-DIMM
• 80GB Ultra ATA drive @ 5400 rpm
• Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
• Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
• AirPort Extreme Card
• APP for PowerBook (w/ or w/o display) - Enrollment Kit
• 15.2-inch TFT Display

Subtotal $2,393.00

1.5
• 1.5GHz PowerPC G4 with 128MB Graphics Memory
• 512MB DDR333 SDRAM - 1 SO-DIMM
• 80GB Ultra ATA drive @ 5400 rpm
• Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
• Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
• AirPort Extreme Card
• APP for PowerBook (w/ or w/o display) - Enrollment Kit
• 15.2-inch TFT Display

Subtotal $2,583.00

What I want to know is whether the almost 200 dollar price hike is worth it for a 170 MHz upgrade and an extra 64 MB of video memory. What's more, I could stick to the 256 MB memory and save another 180 dollars on the 1.33 and buy a 512 stick for only 100. What would you recommend for a college student who uses the typical internet/word processing programs, will be gaming very little if at all, and uses Photoshop and FCP minimally?

Another option is a factory 1.5 for about the price of the 1.33 I have listed above. I have a friend at CompUSA who can get me an extra 200 off of the edu price.

Thanks,

Eash

I would go with the 1.5 Ghz at CompUSA for the same price as the 1.33. The performance difference between the 128 VRAM and the 64 vRAM is minimal according to barefeats.com

I think what urrl78 meant was that because there is little noticeable difference between the 128 and 64 MB video cards, to go with the factory 64 MB at CompUSA. That way I wouldn't need to use the Apple online store.
