I just want to say how fast Apple was on their turnaround. I dropped it off at an Airborne depot Monday at 5pm and before 10am on Wednesday, I am typing this. 41 hours! Good thing as it is my only computer and I had forgotten to do one vital task due this week before I sent it.
I have one of the original Albooks. Developed white spots two weeks later in Oct 2003 (worse spots than the online pictures posted here) but I lived with it until now because a) service was reported to be really slow back then due to lack of screens and b) I couldn't live without it for any period because of ongoing business. I also thought that if I used it for better part of a year that getting a new screen would be a nice life extender.
What a nice screen! Much brighter than the original. No defects. My original screen had one dead pixel. And for those who wondered about how they replaced the screen, I still have the original aluminum cover. There were some reports on the PB gaining weight on screen replacement. I did not think about weighing it until just now but I can tell you that it did not gain weight from thicker aluminum.
They also replaced my anemic battery at my request. They did not give me the latest model (55 watt) but this one has 20% more capacity than my original. Came fully charged which I though unusual.
They fell down on two minor repairs. Two of my rubber feet are gone, and my AC adaptor wall plug won't stay closed for transport. Both can likely be done at an Apple store next time I am in the vicinity.
Color me very happy!
