I'm seeing a strange problem that I can't find any info on anywhere. On plugging in my power adapter to charge the battery or just use the PB while plugged in, the light in the ring around the plug will flash or pulse green. I can also hear a faint sound coming from the speakers or under the keyboard that corresponds in timing to the flashing light.

Sometimes I can get it to stay solid (orange) and charge the battery, however, this week it has been happening more and more. I can unplug and re-plugin the adapter and the issue remains. I've seen it behave properly and improperly on the same outlet at different times (within 2 minutes). I've tested with the 3-pronged adapter, and just the 2-pronged plug on the power brick. There have been no other appliances on the ciruit being turned on or off while I've seen this issue.

This problem happens with the battery in or not. Also, I've noted, that even with the batter out, and the PB off, the flashing happens. When I then pull the plug from the wall...the blinking continues! It slows down after a second and then completely stops. I guess there is some power being used from the internal (reserve) battery inside the PB (??).

I called Apple Support and they said that they'd suggest going to an Apple store or authorized support location to see if I could reproduce the problem with another PB, or another power adapter on my PB. I don't have easy access to either...so I thought I'd see if anyone could help here.

I can't seem to find a reference to a flashing light having any meaning in documentation or online. Can someone help? This is a 4-5 month old PB and obviously I don't think this is a good thing.

sounds like you might have a bad power adapter. if you take it in to an apple store, see if they will test their power adapter and see if it does the same thing. your PB is still under warranty, so if it is a power adapter, they can either just give you a new one, or order you one. hopefully its not your power supply.

it might be worth a try to reset your PMU. you can find documentation on that on apple's website.

In case anyone cares...here's what happened:

After calling support and reseting the PMU, the problem was as bad as ever. On my way home from vacation I stopped off at the Apple store in Farmington, CT...nice store BTW.

The Genius there listened to the issue and basically said..hmm, haven't seen that one before. He plugged it in, saw the flashing led, and listened to the faint ticking coming from inside the PB.

He they pulled an alternate power adapter from his drawer and plugged it in...viola! No blinky blinky.

Basically he just swapped out the power adapter and I went on my merry way. ... wouldn't cost me $79 for the power adapter and $85 for the 'level 1 support' - glad I was inside of the 1st year. This little experience really makes me consider AppleCare.
