I just got my new 15" powerbook 1.5ghz and would really prefer to have a hard case as opposed to the billions of softcases out there. Are there any cheaper alternatives to the Mac Truck? It is pretty much exactly what I want; slim, same form factor as the powerbook, and would easily fit in a backpack.

Any suggestions?

Well, I got a MacTruck to go with my 15" Powerbook and it is great. I say it is worth $200.

Should you really be concerned about saving $20 or $30 on a case for your $2500 - $3000 computer?

It can even be slid into the outer zipper pocket of my overnight/rollerboard bag I use when I travel.

The only thing it does NOT come with is a shoulder strap.
