Is it possible to remove the LCD from the iBook, take the wires that feed it and make a DVI or VGA cable with them?
Ok, I know I could just use the external monitor port, but let's ignore that option for a moment.
What I'd like to do is be able to support dual monitors (or single monitor and tv out) on a headless iBook. Can it be done?
Thanks!

I am going to vote on "yes, it's possible." However, there is no info on whether the signal is digital or analog. I suspect digital, though, as it plugs directly into the LCD.

My reasoning: last week I connected a Pismo LCD to Wallstreet. These are two completely different machines with different resolution displays, different inverter boards, etc... they just *happen* to have the same data plug. I managed to arrange it such that I could connect the Pismo LCD, powered by the Pismo's inverter to the Wallstreet. I successfully got an image, even though they are different resolutions (I believe).

I suspect the same to be true of other machines... but you are on your own as to how.

That's what I was thinking as well. Unfortunately apple has no info I could find as far as what signal is carried on what wire, so it would be trial and error trying to rig up a DVI cable for it.
But it sure would make for an interesting project.

The 14" Wallstreet used the same resolution as a Lombard or Pismo. That's why its GPU had no trouble recognizing the display.
