I see that a few 15 inch 1ghz are still being sold for about 1600 at tekserve here in NYC.

I forget, but have there only been 2 versions of the 15inch powerbook or 3?

Anyway, any reason not to get the 1ghz over the 1.33 combo? I'm trying to ask why spend the extra 400 dollars, and .33 won't do it for me.

Any other good reasons?

there have been 2 versions of the 15"

Rev. A was 1GHz and 1.25GHz
Rev. B is 1.33GHz and 1.5GHz

If you don't think you need the 1.33, then the 1GHz is a nice computer

Should I be concerned with "white spots" with Rev. A? Does this happen on Rev. B?

Or any other problems like the heat issue with the 12inch that is so much better now with Rev. C.

I suppose with any Rev. A Powerbook you will be more prone to the white spots than the Rev. B, but there are also many (most) Rev. A's that do not have white spots. I think if you have a white spot(s) big enough Apple will replace the screen with a new one that shouldn't have white spots. I have not heard of many white spots since Apple found out and quickly fixed most of the problems.

It could happen on any Powerbook regardless of Rev., but so far, I haven't heard of many if any Rev. B 15" powerbooks with the white spot problem.

Other than that people have not had many problems with the 15 or 17 inch Powerbooks. GOod luck on your decision!

I think the video cards are different also. You might want to check if the one they are selling comes with a backlit keyboard...

My 2 cents worth? It's always cool to save a little money but it's always a good idea to get the most efficient computer your money will allow so you won't be left out in the cold for upgrades in gaming and heavy apps and multitasking.
I had the 1Ghz 17" and ended up getting the 1.33Ghz (Applecare upgrade. At first I didn't think it would be much faster but the larger L2 cache and faster processor and upgraded video card along with several smaller speed upgrades it was well worth it.

All the apps I used in the 1Ghz ran much snappier in the 1.33. Even if you think that you will only surf the web and run Microsoft word you will find yourself doing a lot more.

I just got a 1 ghz (new in box) myself. I paid $1300 for it. I'm new to laptops (was using a Gateway desktop) and quasi-new to macs. I wanted to test the waters without breaking the bank. It does everything I need it to do and more (way more). If I decide to upgrade then I'll sell this one. Right now I'd rather put the extra money towards a new digital camera.

Check with your store to see how eager they are to get rid of the things. The place where I bought it from threw in several goodies. I got a free Airport Extreme card, a mini-mouse, a USB hub and a printer. See if your store wants to get rid of it badly enough to throw in goodies or haggle on price. If not, there are several places online that have the 1 ghz for less than $1600 (and cheapish 1.33s).

It was from a regional chain called MicroCenter. They were running a special about a month or so ago. Don't know if it's still going on or not. I know the store I was at was down to their last three (including mine) when I picked mine up (claimed they had ten the day before). I've seen similar prices online since then, too, but I'm not sure what comes with the machines. Can't remember which websites, though. Sorry...
