As the LG stock optical drives in the Pismo die, I am trying to compile a list of replacement drives that can be placed into the bezzel (aka "universal adaptor").

For some more information see my article at:
http://reviews.macnn.com/review.php?id=33

So far I have:

Toshiba SD-R2102 CD-RW/DVD-ROM

If you know of more please add them in!

bstone, xlr8your mac has a great compiled list also.

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/..._feedback.html

Many of them are installed in the Pismo, great list and user feedback.

Btw, I'm buying one of these two, not sure yet....

Toshiba SD-R 6112 2xDVD-R 1xDVD-RW 16xCD-R

It works on a Pismo. I'm doing a backup to a DVD-R as I'm writing.

I also recommend the xlr8yourmac database. After reading the posts there I decided upon a Lite On combo drive. Now there are two versions that work (that I know of). I forgot the model numbers but you can look them up at xlr8yourmac.com. I spent a long time looking for the older drive because it works without any driver hacks. According to others, the newer one works too but you might need to run an enabling hack (also available from xlr8) to get all the burning functions.

The Lite On drives fit fine, although I never bothered to fit the pismo bevel on.
