Ok, sitting here with my sisters new laptop outside our house, and surfing and chatting without any problems. Only thought that struck me, damn, this can't be done with my 12" PB that costs almost twice as much as this one, because the screen is totally unreadable in much lower light conditions than this (it is sunny). It is really about time with a new screen in the next revision, I haven't tried the other (15/17") outside, so can't speak for those, but it is really a shame that it is not possible to use one of the sexiest and best laptops on the marked outside except after dark.

I can get by outside with my 15" but it's not great. It seems like it can get very bright, but against the sun, it's hard to compete.
I can see though, how a darker screen would do no good in the sunlight.
What kind of laptop does your sister have?

It is a cheap Fujitsu Siemens Amilo V2000 Pro with an xga 15" screen.

A bright screen would be nice, but right now in South Florida if the heat and humidity (even in the shade) doesn't drive you inside the house within 5 minutes the mosquitoes will. Think West Nile Fever. Nahh...I'll just be thankful of the many other advantages my 17" has over the Fujitzu. The thought of doing any laptop work outside is pointless for me. I jump from my AC at work to my AC in the car to the Air Conditioning in my room. I don't get out much...

I can agree with you there, I would still have bought the 12" today (only other alternatives I can think of would be the IBM X31 or X40, but those are both well above the pricetag of the PB), but I was just kinda disappointed that the difference was this great on one of the most stylish and professionally designed laptops out there and one of the cheapest.
I kinda like to be able to take my work outside on the veranda, nothing like enjoying the few really sunny and hot days we have here in middle Norway...
