Good afternoon, MacNN'ers. I was wondering if you would be kind enough to help me with my powerbook problem.

This morning I purchased 512 of Viking RAM. I had installed in the shop, and everything appeared fine. Of course, that couldn't last, and right when I got back to the office, kernal panic. So I called Apple, took out the RAM, and everything worked fine.

So I went back this afternoon and received new RAM. Now, at home, same thing. Safari seems the main culprit.

And finally, the questions;

I would like to run the Apple hardware test to see what it says. The problem is that it is on a jaguar install disk, and I now have 10.3.5. I looked on my panther update disk, and I didn't see it. Can I run the program from the Jaguar disk, or is it somewhere on the update disk?

And as a short afterthought, would zapping my PRAM help? And if so, how do Ido this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple Hardware Test does not involve Mac OS at all -- you can run it regardless of what version of Mac OS is installed on the hard drive (or even with no Mac OS installed at all).
