I'm a fairly new PB owner and have so far been very satisfied, but one of the machine's foibles keeps annoying me to no end: the fan noise. Under normal operation the machine is whisper-quiet, but as soon as I fire up any of my games the fan blazes to life as though all the demons of hell were prodding it to greater heights of noise. It's at the point where playing a game in any sort of indoor public building is downright embarrasing because it drowns out all conversation within a 20-foot radius. Loading NWN and playing a ten-minute session, for example, rockets the processor to 68 Celcius, even if I tilt the powerbook so that the bottom of the case has space to ventilate. I'm not sure if this is the standard, but it seems rather high given that I have all options set to minimum and also have upgraded RAM, which should take the load off of the processor a bit.

In any case, I'm looking for a solution of some sort to help alleviate this. I know of the Targus cooling pad, but I was wondering what else is out there. It would have to reduce the heat by at least 10 degrees in order to make any noticeable difference in noise, and portability would be a plus. I'd also greatly prefer if it was powered by the laptop itself and not an outlet. Any of you guys have experience with something of this sort? For reference, I have a 12" Rev C PB.

Thanks.
