Hey All
I'm thinking about getting a Used Pismo(FireWire), but need a larger drive and faster drive.
Was wondering if anybody done this install???
Also have any of you bought from ""Trans Intl""(Pismo stuff) they list this drive and some other stuff for the Pismo. Just wondering how there products stack-up to other companies...
Who do you think has the Best Stuff for the Pismo(Memory, DVD-RW drives, Disk Drives, Spare parts ???
Thanks!!!

Hey, I have a Pismo and have removed the hard drive a number of times. It's very easy; just filp through the manual and it expains everything; the only thing that you need that you may not have around is a torque (?) screwdriver. Any laptop hard drive you would want will probably fit and work, so you could go anywhere you like to buy one.

It's actually a "Torx" screwdriver. Go to your local Sears store and get a set of Craftsman small screwdrivers. It will include a few Torx drivers, and one of them is the right size for the Pismo. I know because I've changed out the hard drive on mine half a dozen times.

I believe the right size is the T-8. At least, that's the size my Wallstreet uses.

I have an IBM Hitachi 7200rpm 8mb buffer 60gb drive in my Pismo 400. It has an ATA-6 interface and even tho they say the Pismo can only use ATA-5 (5400rpm) this has been working perfectly for me. I have it partitioned for 50gb to OS X and 10gb for YD Linux 3.0.1

Hey All
Thanks!!! For the Replies!!!
Hey bstone
How do you like YD on your Pismo??? Does it configure the Modem so you can Dial-out to an ISP??? After installing YD on the 10gb partition how much space is left, looking to do some Development on it, and port some stuff...
Thanks!!!

I put in a 5400RPM 40GB TravelStar into my Pismo. The speed improvement is impressive.
ATA is backwards- and forwards-compatible, so an ATA-6 drive will work fine in an ATA-5 Mac. Until they make laptop drives larger than 137GB, the ATA-5 interface will not be a real limitation.

Edit: P.S.: TransIntl is fine, but I think you can get the same stuff cheaper from Other World Computing, which is where I've bought my upgrade parts.

I'm basically just a fool who likes to know a little bit (or more) about everything. (Kinda why I did the NT MCSE all those years ago). I enjoy YD Linux. Install was simple enough and I have gigs free from the 10gb partition after install. It's certainly snappier than OS X. I have not tried the modem but I have heard good reports from the YDL lists.
