calchemyst disconnected (23:57:30)

I really don't have time to go to the Apple Store. I move into Berkeley in a few days. Is this something I should be concerned about

I haven't heard the fan much at all, except when I'm using the DVD drive...is that the fan, or something else? Actually, just now, something started humming lightly. Is that the fan?

Help!

Dude,
I'm assuming thats an IM log, which you don't need to post a whole conversation. You could have just asked the question about it being hot or better yet search the forums.

If your really concerned about the heat contact apple

Remember, I wasn't overreacting. I thought it was fine, but the person I was talking to seems to think otherwise. Hence, I'm nervous...and when a logical person tells me to be nervous, there may be a problem.

Peh-lease, you really think you can get burned by your PB ? Apple would be getting sued all over the place if that was the case ... it gets hot, ok, no one disagrees, but you're acting like the thing is red hot and it's about to scorch your skin off ...

For the last time Tav, stop using your PB on the stove, it's bound to get hot there. Try using it in the oven next time, but dont forget to stick your head in, all the way in.

But seriously, run Temp Monitor and see how hot it's actually getting inside, if it's above 150ºF and there are no fans kicking in, I'd take it to an Apple Tech, and that's if the oven thing doesn't work out.

Huh? I didn't make the image myself, I got it from a friend. It was already uploaded to my server so it only took approximately 15 seconds to type in the URL.

Anyway... back to tavilach's "problem."

oh, thats why you posted that drivel!?

seriously, get new fingers... there is no way that you could get burnt from that. ill tell you what- you hold your finger there for 2 minutes, if you get burnt ill send you a band aid and a nice warm bottle. wuss.

i think what needs to happen here is that you need to relax with this computer, and just USE it. chances are its 100% perfect. now just get used to this fact and stop worrying and enjoy the beautiful new PB you have.

my theories about that conversation:

a) it more than likely never took place and you made it up because you are really annoying and i dont see how someone could talk to you that long without shooting themself

or

b) calchemyst is your mom

Tavilach, you were warned (and you acknowledged it) about posting crap in the more technical forums. Come on, a freakin chat log? what the hell are you doing? No one is going to read that - especially because few here like you, but that is another issue. You would get responses if you posted more intelligently about legitimate problems.

If you really want help, ask for it - otherwise keep your **** in the lounge where you can be easily ignored.

Regardless of how much of a moron you all think I am, I did nothing to warrant this kind of hostility. Perhaps I need to get a life, but perhaps the rest of you do, as well. Note that I've never insulted a single one of you. Why? I think it's mean to insult people. Even morons.

If you are really Tavilach's Mom than you gave birth to an imbecile after having sex with an orangatang. I wish you "both would leave the mac world" and harass some PC users for awhile!

I was calling myself a moron, not you guys. "Even morons [like me"...get it? Yeesh!

By the way, I downloaded Thermograph X, and it's only going up to 138 degrees...so I guess all is good.

Edit: It hit 140 during normal use, and 147 during an install...but I think that's fine.

1st of all, your you do not need to post an IM convo, just ask the question! Your previous pointless posts makes some people don't want to help you all.

Did you run the Apple Hardware test?

On the motherboard test, it will test the 2 fans, left one and right one. I've done the tests before, or run the tests in loop mode over night: hit the CTRL and L key.

Apple Hardware test?

I tried searching for it on Google...still no idea. MacNN search didn't work, for some reason.

These putdowns are hilarious. Good stuff all.

Hey Tavi, I'd watch out around Berkeley. It's not exactly the safest neighborhood, and Oaktown isn't too far away.

Hey Tavi, I'd watch out around Berkeley. It's not exactly the safest neighborhood, and Oaktown isn't too far away.
i was thinking the same thing. with his personality he should be well received in the streets of east bay. perhaps he can run faster than he can type.

Ummm... You must be new to macs? I expected you would know because of your high post count and you spent all the time making an icon with your happy face next to an Apple? Which by the way is pretty scarry, I would like it without the person in there, IMHO.

The Apple Hardware test is on the DVD 1 disc. Insert the disc, restart the computer, holding the option key. Then you will see a blue background screen, wait a few minutes, click on the Apple Hardware Test Icon, then run the tests.

Yes, I am new to Macs.

No, I won't remove the person. I'm not ashamed to be me.

/me prepares for something along the lines of "I would be ashamed to be you, tavilach!"

/me huffs in digust

P.S. Thanks for the tip.

Apple Key + A then Apple Key + Backspace. It selects all files and sends them to the trash bin.

Most people don't have their face in their sig, doesn't mean that most people are ashamed of themselves...it's rather self-indulgent, and rather undeserved.
