I have a 12" PowerBook (1.33 GHz) running Mac OS 10.3.5. I've been trying to connect a 17" CRT (Princeton Ultra 72) to it via the mini-DVI to VGA dongle. The PowerBook recognises the CRT without a problem, but the CRT only displays a firmware "No signal" message. AppleCare suggested zapping the PRAM, which I did, to no effect. Then they told me to contact the manufacturer of the CRT. I'll do that on Monday, but my hopes aren't high.

I located someone who has the same problem with his 19" CRT, and he says that an older, 14" display works. I'll try a different display to make sure that this isn't a problem with my individual PowerBook, but isn't VGA standardised? Why might a fairly modern CRT not work?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
