I was about to add a SuperDrive to my PowerBook 667 and figured since I was doing that upgrade I might as well go ahead and upgrade the hard drive to 80GBs. This will be my first Apple hard drive upgrade so I wanted to check-in on what the proper actions were to make sure this is a success. If this upgrade follows along with everything else Apple does compared to PC I would anticipate this to be a pretty easy process but again, just want to make sure.

Backup all current data on hard drive
Format current hard drive (any suggestions here for the best way to completely format the drive as I'll probably be selling this one)
Install new hard drive (will be using this for guidance, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=50120)
Insert Panther Disk 1 and boot from it
Install Panther
If the steps above are correct then my two main questions are as follows:
 • What is the best way to format and clean my existing hard drive, so I can be safe reselling?
 • When reinstalling Panther, what is the process I should follow (hold down C key on boot, etc.)?

For reference, I'm installing the following Hitachi hard drive .

Many thanks in advance.

if you boot up from the panther disc you can do a zero-level data erase on the current drive.

adn you can use this for guidance:

I have that issue sitting at home for the SuperDrive installation.

Do I have to do anything special to boot form the Panther CD?

Also, should I look to partition this drive or is that only possible if the OS isn't installed on the drive you want to partition?
