I've noticed a strange occurrence with my new PowerBook's AC Adapter. After a day or two of use the AC Adapter seems to go dead and the only way to get it working again is to unplug then replug the power cable to the wall outlet.

I thought it was a fluke the first time it happened, but in the past week it's happened three more times.

I'll be contacting AppleCare on this, but I was curious if anyone else has this problem.

All the white square adapters do this -- when your power is lousy -- as a self-protection measure. Put it on a high-grade surge protector (this means no cheaper than $30, but $60 is better), or even better, on a UPS.

There's an Apple Knowledge Base article on this, but I'm on slow dialup so you will have to search for it yourself.

Thanks for the quick response. I found the Apple Knowledge Base article on this subject and also talked to AppleCare. I have this PowerBook plugged into a low-grade surge protector and I am running a test now by using another AC Adapter from my old TiBook. I had the TiBook plugged into the same outlet for a year with no problem so I'm curious to see if I just have an extra sensitive AC Adapter.

To further my testing, the AC Adapter that keeps going out is now on my TiBook which is in another room and plugged right into a wall outlet. If after a couple days of use and if it does not go out then I will hook it right back up to my AlBook on an APC surge protector and see what happens.

If I find that the adapter still goes out after a few days Apple said they will send me a new adapter.
