I am helping my father upgrade his Pismo and I was wondering about RAM. The tech specs from Apple say 512MB max, but I seem to have seen people around here saying they have 1.5GB in their Pismo.
So, can you put more than 512MB RAM in a Pismo?
Thanks.

Don't know about 1.5 GB, but I've had 1 GB for 3+ years.

Neat.
I also assume PC133 will work even though its PC100?

Based on Lombards with memory issues in 10.3 and their 512MB maximum, often with near-spec RAM, I would stay with PC100-2-2-2 RAM (original Pismo spec) 512MB chips even at premium prices.

Also, some Lombard users cured 10.3 memory problems as soon as they used Crucial brand.

With Tiger coming, Pismos with more than original Apple spec RAM (+512MB) are ripe for the same unsupported problems with "just as good" near-spec 1 GB RAM. It happened with Wallstreets and 10.2, the trend is clear.

One of my 512MB RAM chips in my Pismo suddenly changed from PC100 2-2-2 (as I paid for) to PC133 3-3-3 after the 10.3.5 update, common with other users also. That's the definition of "near-spec" RAM. I'll bet anything that chip will be problematic come Tiger.

Thank you very much for your insight. I have found some PC100-2-2-2 512MB chips for decent prices that I will be ordering.

The Pismo can handle high-density 512MB modules just fine, FYI. (The Lombard cannot.)

the trick is removing the lower chip, not impossible, just...be careful.
i moved my 256 chip there, and added a new 512mg chip...768.
definitely helps!
