Sooo im sitting here at "The Coffee Guy" in houston texas.. a 'lil comfy coffee shop off I-10. On my table is my new powerbook 17" and my cell phone. As I look around, i notice many people on laptops, various models ranging from HP's to Sonys.. yet im the only Mac user here.

I wonder how these users enjoy their laptops when the table is cluttered with wires, cables, chargers, power bricks, bluetooth antennaes, and PCMCIA wifi cards??? this makes me really appreciate the simplicity of my powerbook, battery life, and its true all-in-one configuration.

Ive gotten several comments from the customers and even more envious looks. 17" widescreen, less than one in thick, gorgeous aluminum enclosure, and the glowing white apple on the back of my screen..
How can those bulky, ugly, black plastic PC laptops even come close??? I finally realize how ugly they are.

Boy i am a satisfied mac user..

just wanted to share this experience while sippin on my cup of joe.

Steven

I've found the majority of people in public places who have PC laptops envy my PB.

Don't forget the joy one gets in just pulling the PB out, opening the lid and going to work. Then closing it and letting it sleep once you're done.

Schweet thread!
I was interviewing today for a position at a major financial institution's IT group, and had my 15" out when the first interviewer came in. I knew he had one from beforehand and he complemented me on mine. Afterwards, I found out later he took off to the Apple Store Ginza for a look around. The guy who tipped me on this position is looking to get a 17" himself. These PBs are popping up in large numbers recently within IT groups and departments. Me likes that! Personal use of course, but lots of VPN usage, etc.

I took my 12" G4 PowerBook to my local Starbucks and was immediately decended upon by several people doing the "ooh and ahh" thing. The schmuck with the mongo-sized Dell was alone and probably wondering why.

What really amazed the crowd, aside from the asthetics of the Mac, was my using LaunchBar to start Mail and Safari. Pretty slick way to open an app, and with laptops having the pointing nub, navigating to the Start menu and through the maze of sub-menus seems like too much work when compared to LaunchBar. Having the AirPort meter in the menu bar was another feature they appreciated. Seeing the different networks available and being able to select one with just a click really appealed to a couple that had an apartment.

i live in downtown manhattan, and there are three coffeebars i sometimes work in.

the funniest thing (or the best photo op) i've seen is right across the street from me.

went to get a coffee, and there were three people, sitting side by side (seperate tables); facing me: a 15", 17", 12" aluBooks.

(if i could have moved one person over, would have had a 12"-to"17" picture!)

so many powerbooks! in all three places
(but it seems, as i go further uptown: more pc's...)

Us Powerbook owners are a smug and self-satisfied bunch, aren't we? Well, we should be-- we've got good reason. I loved having mine at the airport for layovers on my last trip. Looking forward to the next.
