I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this cooling stand.

I have a 15" 1.25 Ghz Aluminum and I worry about its temperature often. In Summer I have extreme problems with heat, as it's probably 100 degrees outside. Right now the software temperature monitor is reading 68.2 degrees celcius. Wow, too hot. One of the reasons that I have such problems with heat is that I'm constantly folding proteins for folding@home (go, Team MacNN!)... yeah, it's an addiction.

I own one of these Antec coolers 24/7 and it seems like it doesn't do much unfortunately. I'm wondering if I should invest in something like this Nexus passive cooler that uses heatpipe technology to remove heat...

I don't know about the heatpipe technology. I rummaged around the house yesterday and found an old external Apple CD player. I ripped it apart and there's a 38W power supply in there with a 12v adapter.

Thus, I ordered 4 ThermalTake fans, and I'm going to running them off of the powersuppy to cool my Powerbook. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hah, awesome. Once you get your Powerbook cooled sufficiently you should join Team MacNN and put that puppy to work.

Seriously, though, we need better solutions for cooling these things... Powerbook G5? No thanks, my G4 already runs at 160° F, my goodness!

So while I'm super pumped about putting the power supply and thermaltake fans to work on my powerbook, I've run into some major trouble with my Powerbook.

It's angering me so much because I have to use my damn peecee. One of my 256 sticks of ram is no longer being "read," so I have 256 running, which is making me tear my hair out. Also my display is super wobbly, so it wobbles when I type or if someone sitting at my desk is shaking their leg.

ARG! I have to send my powerbook in so they can fix the "known" problems. God! PC HELL!

Bummer about the PowerBook. I just built a PC for nearly $300 and it's sweet, but it runs hot... so I'm looking at buying some cooling (since we're on the subject). That is all.

Someone on the Apple forum was having problems till he re inserted his RAM stick. The thing had been doing fine for a year I think. So perhaps oxidation of the metal contacts on the stick in time may cause a problem. All it takes in some cases is re insertion.

Hmmm... Damn I should have tried that. Thanks. I sent the powerbook into Apple for them to look at it and they've started fixing it already. It's on hold right now though because they needed to order a part... wonder which one...

I build Peecee's for my family back home and normally spend about 700 dollars on them. I liquid cool them because I like the silence and it does a hell of a lot better than the CPU fans and the case fans. I overclock them usually as well so my younger brother can play his high-powered games and stuff.

That really is way too hot, on my 1.25 Al Book the highest I've ever seen is 64 degrees (my 2nd fan kicks in at 63.8) running RC5-72, which ive since stopped due to my left fan starting to make funny sounds.

Tell me about it. I've modded my cooling scheme a little bit and it hovers at around 64 degrees celcius now. I'll be interested in seeing how the temperatures go when Summer start waning and good ole Winter freezes us over. Northern California is a hot summer and a cold winter and though I'm a big fan of the the hot and sunny weather (I'm from San Diego), my distributed computing addiction just might drive me to Antarctica.
