Sigh, i really need to install os9 on my powerbook, need to run some old apps that require it. Unfortunately I boughgt my powerbook used it didnt come with any software. I tried borrowing a friends os9.1 cd and try booting up with it to install, that didnt work either. So what I end up doing was just booting up into panther and copying the System Folder to my main startup drive...

It seemed to work, but when I boot up into classic using system prefs, it recommended that i upgrade to os 9.2, and then says it recommends I update my quicktime to 6.0.3. and then i see the smiley face icon and the OS9.1 appears, and i get a window that pops up and tells me "The system software on the startup disk only functions on the original media, not if coped to another drive." and has a restart button.

Sigh, can someone please help me get classic working on my powerbook...

Sounds like you need your OS X cd/dvd. My iBook's 10.3.3 DVD came with Classic (OS 9.2) on it as an install option.

Do you have Classic backed up anywhere? When I got my 17 two weeks ago and fired it up, it asked if I wanted to transfer files over from another Mac. I hooked up my external fw HD and it took about 90 minutes but transferred 99% over (I had to reinstall APE and the Logitech Control Center).

Repaired permissions and all is fine and Classic boots up (for Quark and some older games) just fine.
