Just to make sure, you are aware that you need to use the OF hack for this to work properly, right? Otherwise the iBook's external resolution is stuck at 1024x768. AFAIK, it's a fairly low-risk hack, but some people fear it might void their warranty.
Frankly, I think it's ridiculous that none of Apple's own displays work properly with the iBook without a hack, even though the iBook hardware is perfectly capable. I understand that Apple fears canabilizing the Powerbook sales. But IMO, if the hardware and feature difference between the iBook and Powerbook is small, it means that the Powerbook is overpriced, not that the iBook should be crippled.

The screen spanning hack is great, been using it for months now. If you do need to take the iBook to Apple for some reason, reseting the PRAM completely removes all traces of the hack being used.
I'm using a 17" CRT at 1280x960 @ 85hz. Now that is all well and good as it uses the standard VGA connector. The new Cinema displays only have DVI. I believe VGA->DVI adaptors are quite expensive, and you might find a drop in quality.
Unfortunately your best bet is to get a 17" or 19" LCD screen with a VGA connector. I too would like to use a Cinema display, but we need either a Powerbook or G5 (or PC!) to use them.

this is not totally true, its really just expensive to use a cinema with a iBook.
a VGA->DVI contraption CAN be bought, but runs about $300-400, and the resolution is limited.

Thanks all!
So with my "Cinema" I will add a dual G5?...
Was not the idea!
Yes, damn Apple for "dwarfing" the iBook line.
PB were too expensive when I bought my unfriendly G3 800, and I can not see the point to even buy an iBook with a 1GHz G4 (a beast for a low end laptop!) if you can t use it to its best!...
Do I make sense?
So I will go to the bank, and go for the killer...
• Dual 2.5GHz PowerPC G5
• 2GB DDR400 SDRAM (PC3200) - 4x512
• 160GB Serial ATA - 7200 rpm
• ATI Radeon 9800 XT w/256MB DDR SDRAM
• Apple Cinema Display (20" flat panel)
• AirPort Extreme Card
• 8x SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
• Apple Keyboard & Apple Mouse - U.S. English
• Mac OS X - U.S. English
Subtotal $5,098.00
5 K, it hurts!...
I was also thinking about this:
• 1.5GHz PowerPC G4 with 128MB Graphics Memory
• 2GB DDR333 SDRAM - 2x1GB SO-DIMMs
• 80GB Ultra ATA drive @ 5400 rpm
• SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
• Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
• AirPort Extreme Card
• Apple Cinema Display (20" flat panel)
• 15.2-inch TFT Display
Subtotal $5,148.00
That is madness!
I d rather have a good old dual G5 instead of a machine that runs just a bit better than my iBook! And as I already have a "mobile" computer!
Sincerely, Apple should be careful, PB on this figure is loosing quite badly

Just buy a non-Apple display and use Screen Spanning Doctor. Heck, you can get a non-Apple 17" display for the cost of the VGA->DVI adapter.

Right.
And if that's not enough money spending for you, may I suggest:
• 1.8GHz PowerPC G5, 512KB L2 cache
• 600MHz frontside bus
• 256 MB DDR400 SDRAM (get more of this, but not at apple.com)
• NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra w/ 64MB DDR video memory, AGP 8x
• 160GB Serial ATA hard drive
• Slot-load SuperDrive 8x4x24x16x8
• 20" TFT widescreen display
Subtotal $1,899.00
Doesn't hurt that much...
