Hi.

I just bought a brand new iBook G4 (1.2 GHZ). I have only had it for 2 weeks tomorrow (Saturday - August 28th). But there are already smudges where my hands rest when typing/using the trackpad.

I'm not sure if my hands are just overly dirty/greasy (and if that's the case, then I'm embarrassed posting this ) or if there is something up with the iBook.

Either way, I want to get the smudges off. But using just a damp cloth doesn't work. Do you have any ideas on how to remove them? Any help would be great!

Thanks.

i've had mine for a little over a year now and regurlar minor clean ups were all that was necessary and I still have a pur white ibook. Maybe wash your hands more thoroughly? Everything that was ever on my 12" came off with a damp lint free cloth. Take a look at those products that are specifically made for ibook cleaning..

I use a clean white eraser to get those off. I've heard of some people using those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, too.

Great tip! I had some rather ugly looking "dark" spots from my obviously horribly dirty wrists on my white iBook G4. Using a white eraser cleaned them right up! Thanks.

I got some iKlear wipes (20 for $10 at Apple store) and they work well. I have cleaned my screen and keyboard just recently and it worked very well.

Maybe a stupid question, but what is a "white eraser"? Is it literally a white pencil eraser?

I have used anti static wipes they are like monitor wipes and for $5.00 you can get around 70 wipes they do a great job at cleaning everything.
Bless those that sacrifice for us all.

Yes, a white pencil eraser. Works wonders.

I got ink on the outer shell of my iBook G4 two days ago and I didn't notice it until hours later when it had dried. I tried cleaning it with water, no luck. i then tried some screen cleaner, the brand recommended by Apple. That got most of it off, but not all of it. Try as I might, it was stained.

Then I tried the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser recommended above. That worked perfectly and didn't damage the outer shell! I didn't really think it would work, but I'm completely sold on it now.

I just finished "detailing" my wife’s iBook. I got her a shaggymac screen protector, iKlear kit, and a micro-wipe. I definitely recommend looking here:
