It is the internal hard disk, previously I had it with no software after do a "cleaning process", I used to boot Mac OS X from my LaCie d2 FireWire HD, it was a snap to boot, but well, I decided to use the internal disk and now the fan is ON almost all the time, there climate is not that hot where I live to justify the fan working all the time. BTW the internal hard disk does a annoying noise sometimes, this is not the from factory hard disk since the one that came with the PB died under warranty. Apple changed it of course. Are yours 17" PB (mine is a rev. a) that hot?, so you use sometimes an external hard disk to boot up the PowerBook and maybe you note the fan thing?

Thanks.

The fan on my Rev. A. is usually on but I think it has more to do with the processor. I say this because when I leave it on at night downloading Torrents (so the hard drive is constantly being accessed), the fan does NOT come on. But when I'm running stuff, regardless of hard drive accessing, the fan WILL come on.
The world needs more Canada.

Could be, I could try the torrent thing as test but to be honest I have no idea how that thing does work.

Some guys say it is a 10.3.5 thing but I see that it is your current version and mine also (on both, internal and lacie hard disk).
