One of the things that struck me about the BTO options on the new G5 iMac is that Apple is only charging $225 to upgrade the standard 256 MB memory (400 DDR) to 1 GB memory (2x512). Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the past, upgrading from 256 to 1 GB cost at least $400 with Apple's bto options, did it not? For example, on the current Powerbook bto options, going from 256 to 1 GB costs $500.
Based on this, should we expect the next Powerbook upgrade, regardless of whether it still has a G4, to have much more reasonable bto memory upgrade prices?

The Powerbook uses low-profile SO-DIMMs. This is why it is more expensive.

Yes, but weren't the memory upgrade prices on the last iMac much closer to the upgrade prices on the current Powerbook? I'm fairly certain you could not upgrade the memory in the iMac G4, using Apple's bto options, from 256 to 1 GB for less than $400.
If this is correct, then couldn't this signal less expensive RAM upgrades trickling into the other models as they are updated?

I think the prices of RAM are just dropping... Especially for desktop RAM PC3200 (DDR400) because I just bought 1GB of RAM for $99.99 After $40 (total) of MIR.
You might be right that before the RAM prices were similar to the PB's 1GB RAM upgrade...
