I have an 867MHz Titanium PowerBook. Since yesterday, the left hinge on the screen makes a noise when I open the lid. Sounds like a spring coiling or like someone running their fingernail down a comb. The right one isn't making a noise and the left one doesn't make the noise when I close the lid.
Anyone know how to fix this? Does it need to be lubricated? If so, how?
Thanks in advance for the help.

A bit of lubricant would be usefull. Take off the torx screws with a torx screwdriver, after removing the pressure molded hinge covers youŽll see the guts of the hinge mechanic. Apply some teflon or silicone liquid lube (high end bicycle chain lube is suiteable) to the visible holes in the rotor of the hinge (only a VERY SMALL amount). Afterwards remove excessive lube with a kleenex and remount hinge cover. That worked for me...

Radtech makes a very nice kit just for this called TiGlide. I have used it a number of times on different TiBooks with great results every time. It includes a spanning tool to adjust the tension along with a special lubricant and also some other adjustment tools in case you need to align your screen to the body better. Very nice, easy to use and effective for not much money.

Cool, thanks Pat. Will hit the high end bike shop and let you know what happens!

I agree. Since my TiBook did not open without force I oiled the hinges. I used simple olive oil from the kitchen. Worked fine. Applied every few months the lap openend really smooth (better than the new state of the unit) and without any sound. And of course it helps to avoid hinge breaks. I had no hairline cracks in the case even after 3 years of use (I had the original Ti500).
Should be mentioned in the maintenance part of the manual if you ask me.
