I am planning on buying a g4 1Ghz 12" ibook with 768megs of ram, Airport, Bluetooth and a 60gig Hd. I stopped into the apple store the other day to have a look around and asked one of the reps about getting a custom ibook with the 60 gig hd and the the bluetooth and airport and the upgraded ram. He told me that they don't do hard drive upgrades in the store and I would have to go to the apple store online to order the laptop with the bigger hard drive. Is this true? Another question I have is where does the apple store ship from. Is it cupertino, CA. I'm just curious how long I have to except for shipping to southern california. Thanks in Advance,
Armando

I think they come from Asia still. So just go to the online store do a run through of your order and see what the ETA for custom builds are at this time. It shouldn't be longer than a week, two at worst if they are swamped with orders.
And the 60 gig drive is still 4200RPM. I would skip that upgrade and get a faster firewire external drive. You'll be happier with the performance.

Actually the store will BTO but they'd have to order it via the online store just as if you were ordering it via the online store. The larger HD is a good idea, seeing how it's a pain to have to take around a portable HD around with your 'book. Get the larger HD and get a smaller 5400 or 7200 external HD for home use and backup, you could never be tooo safe, unless of course you were using metal lined gloves to cut a tomato with a plastic knife.

I decided the wait can't be that bad and ordered a 12" 1ghz ibook with 768 megs of ram a 60 gig hd bluetooth and AP extreme. It says 1 to 3 days until it ships. I can live with that. I heard that the free shipping from Taiwan is fast. Thanks for all your help and I look forward to becoming a switcher

Yea its pretty fast, you should have your computer in a few days. I just ordered a 12 inch BTO iBook from the online store and it was at my door 5 days after I bought it.

Does the apple store provide any kind of tracking for the orders. And what do they ship with UPS, FedEX, USPS?
Thanks,
Armando

You'll get an email with that info when it ships. Or just check on your order once it is on the way to you.
