hi all... ok, my beloved new 17" is giving me grief lately, heres whats going on:

yesterday, after waking my unit from sleep by opening the lid, the keyboard had gone nuts... most keys would produce no input at all, while some would produce numbers randomly... i restarted the machine (mouse still worked) but the problem persisted and i could not type my username and password to login. after *4* reboots, the keyboard was acting totally normal again, inexplicable. since then, it has not happened again as of yet and seems normal today... ???

also, the machine occasionally does not work when woken from sleep... the screen will remain blank even though the computer is obviously awake; keyboard is lit up, pressing the volume keys will illicit the expected tones and such... opening and closing the machine a few times will usually clear it up, but i have been forced to shutdown the machine the hard way on occasion (hold down power button, and if that doesn't work, pull battery)... i of course lose all work when this occurs, and no longer trust sleep mode as "sleep" per say.

are any of these known problems w/ my particular unit? i already have an Airborn box from Apple to send in the unit but i am terrified they are going to tear up my machine badly just like my poor iBook they brutalized so badly...

Well, the numbers problem is an almost clear indication that you had the num lock (F6 key) enabled. Num lock deactivates the keyboard except for the number pad on the corresponding keys (numbers and math symbols in lower right corner of key cap. Check the num lock light under the F6 key to see if it is on.

As for the blank screen, are you sure it is blank or is the backlight just turned off? You can try resetting the PRAM or PMU to try to fix this after trying to adjust the backlight. If you still have no video, you may have a more serious problem.

hi Steve, thx for your reply but numlock is not the keyboard issue, that was the first thing i checked and it persisted through multiple reboots... i will look up how to "zap" the PRAM tonight though and see if that helps at all w/ the sleep issues. no more keyboard weirdness so far though, but i am very waary at this point..!
